Partnership in Arts
Painting Positivity is a collaboration between the Town of Castle Rock Public Art Commission (TOCR PAC) and the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative (CRAC). This partnership provides a unique opportunity to combine resources – both talent and funds – to create an art installation that is bigger and better than each could create on their own.
Town of Castle Rock Public Art Commission
Incorporated in 1881, the Town of Castle Rock is a vibrant and spirited community with a rich history and heritage.

“Art is a reflection of a town’s character and culture and has been since the days of the cavemen,” said Perry. “This public art campaign tells our story of today. Despite a challenging few years and seemingly divisive times, we come together as a community and shape the narrative with positivity. Whether it’s a professional muralist, an amateur photographer, or a local Instagram account, spreading love and positivity is part of Castle Rock’s story.”
The Pubic Art Commission functions as the catalyst for local public art experiences and works to enhance community vibrancy and small-town character. In 2020, the Public Art Commission conducted research to uncover the community’s thoughts on art and its impact. The public art survey showed that 92% of respondents felt art added value to their community. Here are a few excerpts from the qualitative research:
“Art can bind people together.”
“It brings people together, it tells stories.”
“Art unifies the community.”
“Art expands your horizons.”
“It’s not a community without art and culture. Going back to the caveman days and the painting on the walls, there is no culture without art.”
“Ultimately, it may surprise no one to discover that arts and arts education have strong positive effects on wellness and quality of life. Throughout human history, in virtually all cultures, the arts have been viewed as a hallmark of civilization—so why not of health and human development?”
